Solid Base Led By All-Star Barnes Provides Confidence For Raptors’ Future
Led by 2023-24 All-Star Scottie Barnes, the Raptors have a solid foundation to build upon. In-season acquisition Immanuel Quickley showed plenty of chemistry with teammates, Jakob Poeltl is healthy again, and sharpshooter Gradey Dick made great strides in his rookie campaign.
Add in two veteran Canadians – BC-raised Kelly Olynyk, along with local legend-in-the-making RJ Barrett – and the Raptors have a base of talented, driven players.
The upcoming 2024-25 season will be the second for Darko Rajaković, who saw significant growth in his first year as an NBA head coach.
After only his third year, the 22-year-old Barnes is the clear franchise cornerstone, and rightfully so as the small forward hit another gear last season, setting career highs of 19.9 points-per-game and a 34% three-point percentage.
Injuries to key personnel hampered the Raptors last season, but every player should be injury-free heading into 2024-25, so there’s plenty of reason for optimism.
"The culture of this team will always be at a high level," Vice Chairman and President Masai Ujiri said. "Yes, we're going to go through adversity just like every other place, human being, organization…but the culture of this place is always going to be strong."
Ujiri, as always, is clear in his expectations:
"My goal is to win another (championship) here. That’s the focus, 100 percent."
