Blue Jays New Era Squad Becoming A Big Hit For Canada
The Blue Jays mark the 46th season in franchise history with an exciting team ready to do something special for Canada in 2022.
Manager Charlie Montoyo enters his fourth year guiding the club, building off a 91-win campaign. Last year’s team set the Blue Jays franchise record for home runs and now they look to do more damage around the plate with plenty of star-power. From Hank Aaron Award winner and AL MVP runner-up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to veteran outfielder George Springer, the Jays batting order is a dangerous bunch.
Slipping under the radar of Jays hype last season was a first-time All-Star nod for Teoscar Hernandez. The outfielder recorded a team-high 116 RBI to earn his second straight Silver Slugger honour. Meanwhile, Bo Bichette also joined Hernandez and Guerrero Jr. as first-time All-Stars, leading the AL with 191 hits.
The team’s pitching quickly developed into a legitimate contending rotation in 2021. A nice blend of experienced arms fits with up-and-comers like 24-year-old Alek Manoah, who carved out a 3.22 ERA in 20 starts. In the bullpen, Canadian closer Jordan Romano looks to build on the best performance of his career, recording a 2.14 ERA in 62 appearances and securing 23 saves in the process. The extension of Jose Berrios in the offseason to a multi-year contract shows general manager Ross Atkins knows this is the moment to cement the defence around an offensively potent squad that led the Majors with 262 home runs.
For those across the country looking for excitement this summer, catching onto the fun-loving Toronto Blue Jays is an easy hit.
