Finishing with a 92-70 record in 2022, the Blue Jays earned the most wins in a campaign since 2015. The club also posted 90 plus victories in consecutive years for the second time in franchise history. Trending in the right direction, Toronto has now reached the MLB playoffs twice in three years.
Last season, the Blue Jays placed multiple starters at the All-Star Game for the sixth time in club history. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made his second consecutive appearance at the Midsummer Classic, and joining him as a starter was first time All-Star Alejandro Kirk. Alek Manoah, Jordan Ramano and Santiago Espinal also made their All-Star debuts. While George Springer earned his fourth career selection to the game, but did not participate.
As the Blue Jays focused on a postseason push in the season’s second half, shortstop Bo Bichette produced in the clutch. When the dust settled, the pitching of Manoah stood out as the team’s biggest individual performance of 2022.
The 24-year-old finished his second MLB compaign with the second-most quality starts in the Majors (25), and third in wins (16) and ERA (2.24) among AL arms. Manoah’s 2022 ERA now stands behing Roger Clemens for the second-best in franchise history. While his 0..99 WHIP is the club’s new benchmark. As young stars like Manoah continue to rise around the organization, the Blue Jays continue to focus on getting to the World Series.
